Overview
WordPress hosting on Infralane
Create a website, company blog, publication, or portfolio with WordPress. Manage pages, publish articles, upload media, and customize your site with WordPress themes and plugins.
Included
- WordPress with PHP 8.3 and Apache.
- A private MariaDB 11.4 database.
- Generated database passwords for each deployment.
- Persistent storage for WordPress files and database data.
- A database readiness check before WordPress starts.
Suitable for
Personal websites, business websites, blogs, portfolios, and small publications.
Setup after deployment
Open your website to complete WordPress installation and create your administrator account. You choose your site title, administrator username, password, and email address during this step.
Email and optional services
Email delivery is not configured by this template. Connect an SMTP or transactional email provider for password resets, notifications, and contact forms.
Themes, plugins, caching, ecommerce, and external services can be configured after installation. This template does not preinstall them.
Deployment model
This template runs one WordPress service and one database service. It does not configure high availability, WordPress Multisite, or automatic backups.
Getting started
Deploy your website
- Select a resource pool with enough available CPU, memory, and storage.
- Deploy the template. Database passwords are generated automatically.
- Wait for the database and WordPress services to start.
- Open the WordPress application's HTTPS address immediately and complete installation before sharing the address.
Complete WordPress installation
Choose your language, enter your site title, and create an administrator account with a strong, unique password and an email address you control.
The database connection is already configured. You do not need to enter database credentials in the installer.
After installation, sign in at /wp-admin/.
Configure your site
- Choose a theme and remove unused themes and plugins.
- Configure your preferred permalink structure.
- Connect an SMTP or transactional email provider and send a test email.
- Confirm that password reset messages arrive successfully.
- Configure backups before adding important content.
Connect a custom domain
If you already have a domain, connect it to the WordPress application and confirm that HTTPS works before completing installation.
If you change domains after installation, update the WordPress Address and Site Address in WordPress settings. Existing content may also need a URL migration.
If installation cannot connect to the database
Check the database service's status and logs. Confirm that it is healthy and that both services use the same database password. Restarting repeatedly will not fix mismatched database credentials.
Operations and maintenance
Persistent data
WordPress files are stored in wordpress-data, mounted at /var/www/html. This includes uploaded media, themes, plugins, configuration, and WordPress application files.
MariaDB data is stored in database-data, mounted at /var/lib/mysql.
Persistent storage is not a backup. Deleting these volumes can permanently remove your website.
Backups
Back up both:
- A consistent database export containing your posts, pages, users, settings, and plugin data.
- The WordPress files, including uploads, themes, plugins, and configuration.
Use a backup tool that supports WordPress and MariaDB. Do not rely on copying a running database's raw files.
Store backups outside this stack, protect them from unauthorized access, and regularly test restoration into a separate installation. Keep the credentials needed for recovery securely.
This template does not configure a backup schedule.
Updates
Back up your site before updating WordPress, plugins, themes, PHP, or MariaDB. Test significant updates on a separate installation first.
WordPress's own automatic update policies remain active unless you change them. Review these policies in WordPress.
WordPress application files persist in the volume. Changing the container image alone does not necessarily replace an existing WordPress installation or roll back its files.
Container and database upgrades require separate compatibility checks. Restoring older software against an upgraded database may require restoring a matching backup.
Database passwords
Database initialization credentials apply when MariaDB creates an empty database.
Changing a password in the deployment environment does not update an existing database account. Rotate the database account password and the WordPress connection password together.
Capacity
Monitor memory, CPU, storage, and database health. Media uploads and backups can grow quickly. Increase resources as your content, plugins, and traffic grow.
Troubleshooting
- Database connection errors: check database health and matching credentials.
- Redirect loops: check the configured site URL and HTTPS forwarding.
- Missing password reset emails: check SMTP configuration and delivery logs.
- Failed media uploads: check available storage and PHP upload limits.
- Plugin failures: check WordPress/PHP compatibility and application logs.
New template releases do not update installed stacks automatically. Plan application upgrades and backups for your deployment.
