Bring your own server
Connect your own Linux VPS to Infralane and manage application deployments for free. There is no management subscription, trial expiry or wallet top-up. Your provider bills hosting separately.
Before you begin
Use a fresh, dedicated server with:
- a supported Linux version from the list in Connect your server;
- systemd and root or sudo access;
- a public IPv4 address;
- ports 80 and 443 available for application traffic;
- enough CPU, memory and storage for your applications and deployment headroom.
Supported Linux versions
Use one of the installer-accepted versions below. Check the current dashboard list before choosing a VPS image; application and architecture requirements still apply.
| Distribution | Versions |
|---|---|
| Ubuntu Server LTS | 22.04, 24.04, 26.04 |
| Debian | 12, 13 |
| Rocky Linux | 9, 10 |
| AlmaLinux | 9, 10 |
| RHEL | 9, 10 |
| CentOS Stream | 9, 10 |
| Amazon Linux | 2023 |
| Fedora | 43, 44, 45 |
Installer checks
The installer checks compatibility and asks before installing missing packages or a local Docker Engine. It refuses conflicting Docker workloads or occupied service ports. Review any proposed changes before approving them.
Use amd64 for GitHub or ZIP source builds. ARM64 servers can run compatible prebuilt Docker images; the current source builders target amd64. Infralane does not create a VPS or cloud-provider account for you.
For connection failures and signed updates after setup, see Server maintenance.
If you need a VPS, the dashboard links to providers with free allowances and paid options. Check current eligibility, availability, charges and usage limits directly with the provider.
Connect the server
Choose your project
Select your workspace and project. You need project write permission to connect a server.
Create the setup record
Open Resource pools → Connect your server. Enter a recognizable server name and its public IPv4 address, then select Create server setup. Infralane does not charge your wallet.
Generate installation instructions
Open the new server and select Generate installation instructions. The one-time token stays masked until you deliberately reveal or copy it. It expires after 15 minutes; a replacement invalidates the previous token.
Install Crane
Open the server’s terminal through SSH or your provider’s console. Copy the installation command from the dashboard and run it. The command verifies the installer signature before executing it.
Review any package and Docker changes and approve only when ready. Paste the one-time token when the installer asks. Never put the token in a URL, a support message or an application setting. Infralane does not need your SSH password or private key.
Check the connection
Crane connects outbound to Infralane. Select Check connection or refresh the overview until the server is connected. A running Crane service alone does not prove that the management connection is working.
If the token expires during installation, generate a replacement and rerun the same command. If the server stays offline, inspect the connection and service status before disconnecting or replacing credentials.
Deploy your applications
Your connected server appears as a resource pool. Choose it during application deployment. Applications share its CPU, memory and storage; leave room for builds and replacement containers.
Follow the application quickstart to deploy from GitHub, a Docker image or ZIP source.
What Infralane handles
Infralane manages application deployment and provides configuration, deployment history, domains, logs and monitoring tools. You keep your server and provider account.
You remain responsible for provider charges, operating-system maintenance, server security and independent backups. Persistent volumes are not backups. Resize a customer-owned server with your provider; Infralane does not resize or terminate it through a provider API.
Disconnecting a server
Open the server’s settings and select Disconnect server. Type the server name to confirm. This revokes Infralane management access and preserves your VPS, applications and data. Your provider continues billing for hosting. Reconnecting needs a new installation token.
Prefer an Infralane-hosted server? Create a hosted resource pool. This is an optional paid service with a separate price and wallet charge shown in the dashboard.
